Malta from a Japanese perspective

Malta Traffic Information (Ferry)

f:id:Maltalover:20200614151718j:plainThere are various ferries 🚢

I have used 3 types of ferries.

⚓ Valletta Ferry Services, which operates Valletta and Sliema
⚓ Gozo Channel operating on Malta and Gozo (Malta's second island)
⚓ Virtu Ferries from Valletta to Sicily(Italy)

In addition to these, I also used a one-day cruise tour of Gozo and Comino and a sightseeing cruise tour of Sliema, Valletta and Three Cities.
If you find it difficult to ride the ferry yourself, I recommend a cruise tour. It's best to book your cruise tour by the day before!

[Valletta Ferry Services, which operates Valletta and Sliema]
The bus between Valletta and Sliema takes about 20 to 30 minutes (it may take an hour if it is crowded), but the ferry takes 10 minutes. It runs every 30 minutes. One way 1.5 €, round trip discount available. From June to October, it operates late at night.
At the ferry station, buy tickets from one of the staff (one-way or round-trip and how many people). Get a ticket and board. No reservation required. If you buy a round-trip ticket, please be careful not to lose your ticket.
You can enjoy sightseeing for 10 minutes!!
However, the ferry may not operate on high waves. In winter, the waves are high and the sea is often rough, so there will be more days of non-operation.

*Although I have never boarded, the company also operates ferries between Valletta and Three Cities.

[Gozo Channel operating between Malta and Gozo]
The most popular way to reach Gozo is by ferry from the port of Circewwa in northern Malta. It is a boat trip of about 30 minutes. Except in the early morning and late night, ships leave every 45 minutes and operate 24 hours a day. No reservation required.
There are convenience stores and cafes in the ferry, so you can eat light meals.
Along the way, you can also see the famous Comino Island in the Blue Lagoon.
You do not have to pay ferry fees from Malta to Gozo. On the return trip, buy the ticket at the ticket office. Round trip price is 4.65 € for adults. We recommend that you have plenty of time to reach the port. The summer season is crowded.
This ferry also does not operate in bad weather.

[Virtu Ferries operating in Sicily from Valletta]
From Valletta to Pozzallo in southern Sicily and Catania in the east.
I took a round trip between Valletta and Pozzallo.
Since this was my first trip to Italy, I didn't buy the ferry ticket myself, I went to a travel agency and booked a tour to Mount Etna and Modica, which included the ferry ticket.
By the way, you need a passport to book the tour. If you forget your passport, you can book it with a copy of your passport or a screenshot of your passport.
You must have a passport on the day of your trip! !!
Although it is a tour, there is no detailed guide and no dedicated guide. The bus driver will only explain the rest areas, Mount Etna and Modica while driving.

This ferry is 1 round trip per day and must be booked. You can go on a day trip. It is less than 2 hours one way by boat. There was a smoking area 🚬 on the deck, and there were arcades, convenience stores, cafes, souvenir shops, etc. on board. I went to sleep early in the morning and returned late at night, so I slept on the ship. Reclining on board was quite good 👍
