Malta from a Japanese perspective

Malta Traffic Information (Public Bus)

When I first visited Malta in 2016, there were few sources of information about Malta and only one tour guidebook. Moreover, there was no tour guidebook only for Malta, only a set with Southern Italy. Of the 408 pages in this book, Malta has only 67 pages, most of which were about Italy.

As of August 2020, more than 5 tour guide books have been published in Japan.

There is no train in Malta. Also, there are no subways, bullet trains, or monorails.
Malta is a small country, but not small enough to walk around. It is half the size of Tokyo's 23 wards. So, cars and public buses are the main means of transportation!
For travel and short-term study abroad, the main means of transportation is a public bus.
From here, I would like to introduce the main topic, the public bus.

You get on the bus from the front door. You pay the driver when you board. When getting off, if there is an announcement (including the display) of the place where you want to get off like in Japan, press the buzzer nearby.

You can get on and off freely for 2 hours for 1.5 €
*From mid-June to mid-October 2 €: Check with the driver for details!
If you plan to board another bus within 2 hours, please present the receipt received on the previous bus when boarding.
For your reference, In Japan, some areas have a unified fare, while some areas have a fare system that depends on distance. Japanese buses do not have a system in which fares are unified depending on time.

In recent years, there are only specific stops, but direct buses (TD or X1, such as the ones that start with English) have started to run, and it is convenient because it does not stop at each stop. It costs 3 € and is a one-time use. With the receipt of this bus, you can't get on a regular bus (there is a display starting with a number such as 14A).

Public buses run from 5:30 to around 23:00. There are also late-night buses. There are also coupons and unlimited 7-day tickets for travelers.

Google Maps is convenient for route maps and timetables!
I will also post the public bus site and App.

⚠ Bus notes ⚠
The bus will not stop just by waiting at the bus stop! !
When the bus to your destination appears, please raise your hand to appeal.
If the driver doesn't notice your appeal, it won't stop. Also, it does not stop when it is full.
There are many aggressive drivers on the bus.
If you are standing while riding the bicycle, hold it by the hanging leather.

I waited for 30 minutes under the scorching sun in a place with few buses.
I forgot the appeal despite the arrival of the bus, so the bus did not stop 💦
Please be careful not to forget the appeal😀
