Malta from a Japanese perspective

Basic information about Malta ( public order )

f:id:Maltalover:20200626181340j:plainIsn't it dangerous? Are there many pickpockets?

This is a question I often get asked. Because Japan is safe country.

Many Japanese people think that there are many misdemeanors such as pickpockets because Malta is close to Italy. But Malta is a very safe country in Europe.

I live in Tokyo, but I thought it would be safer than Tokyo.

When I visited Malta for the first time in September 2016, I was walking around the tourist attractions of Malta and I almost missed the last bus. Walking alone at night was not dangerous for me.

One day, while walking in the residential area of Valletta, I saw an old woman dropping a basket from the balcony on the second floor and a bakery putting bread in the basket.
Malta has many old buildings and many without elevators.
And since there are many elderly people, it would be nice to have a bakery like this.
I think it can be done because it is safe.

Recently, pickpockets appear to be frequently occurring on buses, downtown areas, and tourist spots.
None of my friends met the danger. That's because everyone was paying attention to the following:
・When there are many people, hold the bag in front.
・Do not put your wallet in the back pocket
・Do not drink too much

South American friends praised,
"It's very safe to go out in the middle of the night. It's a wonderful country!" 😍😍😍
I think it's basically safe, but be careful.

Please note that Malta has narrow sidewalks, some pavements are not well organized, and many slopes make it slippery and stumbling!

There are many people who park on the street or drive dangerously (especially buses), so please walk on the sidewalks and inside as much as possible.
